the Mamba WINE ROUTE

The Black Mamba, the world’s fastest snake is the inspiration behind Maxmillian Riedel’s striking new serpentine-shaped decanter, the Mamba. As wine gurgles through the voluptuous glass’ every bend, it is double-decanted. A coiled base creates a series of air pockets that “charge” wine towards the neck upon pouring.

While the bartender community’s indeed a tight-knit one, ShakeStir reveals just how intertwined. This new website and interactive platform not only allow bartenders to showcase their achievements, exchange ideas from bars across the globe and find out where fellow barkeeps paid their dues, but features compelling articles on industry trends.

On Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at GILT in New York City, wine director Patrick Cappiello holds court in the restaurant’s parlor for intimate “Pours with Patrick.” During these personalized wine tastings, Cappiello offers three-ounce pours of eight different wines, after first consulting with the reserved parties (maximum four) about their varietal and regional preferences. $100-$500
