Rob Tobiassen has announced his retirement effective the end of March 2012. He has had a long and distinguished career, spanning more than 34 years. Mr. Tobiassen started his Federal service with our predecessor agency, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) in 1978, in Washington, D.C. From 1985 to 1988, he served in the ATF counsel office in San Francisco, CA before returning to Washington, D.C. Prior to becoming TTB’s Chief Counsel, Mr. Tobiassen was the Associate Chief Counsel (Alcohol and Tobacco) for ATF.
Mr. Tobiassen holds an A.B., with distinction, from the University of California, Berkeley; a J.D. from Lewis and Clark College, where he focused on environmental law and served on law review; and an LLM (Taxation) from Georgetown University Law Center. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar, Oregon State Bar (Inactive Status), and California State Bar (Inactive Status).
