Back to (Wine) School With Fairleigh Dickinson and The New York Times

Discovering the World of Wine is the new multimedia online wine course made via a collaboration between Farleigh Dickinson University’s International School of Hospitality and Tourism Management and The New York Times. Available on the New York Times Knowledge Network, the course was created by Ron Kapon, wine writer and teacher of the FDU classroom wine course, and Patricia Savoie, wine writer and educator. The course includes tasting videos, by Philippe Newlin and maps created by Bill Lembeck. Some classes showcase tasting through varietals across many regions. Other classes take the learner into a wine store to get a retailer’s perspective, or restaurant to discuss choosing a wine with a sommelier. Chile: Digging the Digital Life

On the heels of participating the music festival South by Southwest in March, Wines of Chile tapped into a couple other high-profile high-tech portals. Recent advances applied to its Facebook game “Terroir Hunting”(which allows participants to virtually experience what it takes to produce their own Chilean wines) were given prime exposure via the online hot spot Next Web. Plus, a Twitter #winechat led by Master Sommelier Fred Dexheimer generated 4,223,901 impressions, reaching an audience of 378,267 followers


Dewar’s Hub Debuts At Ted Long Beach

Earlier this spring, Dewar’s unveiled the Dewar’s Hub at a TED conference in Long Beach. The Dewar’s Hub monitored and collected Twitter conversations during TED from the conference and mentions of TED from across the globe, visualizing them on an LED screen in real-time. Motion detection technology allowed users to physically manipulate the Twitter activity on-screen and showcase the most relevant topics. Consumers everywhere could tweet @DewarsHub and get a real-time response from the installation. Dewar’s Master Blender Stephen Marshall also held a master class, “The Art of Whisky Tasting” for TED Long Beach attendees.

Malibu Brings Sunshine Activation To Social Media

Malibu Sunshine is the newest permanent flavor to join the Malibu Rum portfolio.
