  Kosher Wines for High Holidays

Kosher wines and spirits are available year-round, but there are times when demand rises. As Jeff Cohen of Tops Liquors in Brooklyn says, “Rosh Hashanah is really the kick-off for several successive important Jewish holidays. Cohen adds, “I’m so happy that my customers can come in and see such quality and variety, from top-notch Bordeaux to California Cabs and kosher bourbons and whiskies.”

Kosher wines are made in much the same way that non-Kosher fine wines are made, with the caveat that additional rules are followed and the wines are made under Rabbinical supervision.

Kosher wines are always identified as such on the label. Certified Kosher wines are intended to be opened by observant Jews, while Kosher wines also certified “mevushal” are treated so that anyone may open and serve them (this is a boon for catering halls and restaurants).
