Southern Wine & Spirits Trade Day kicks off Grand Tasting Pavilion in style.
Southern Wine & Spirits partnered with Food Network for its fifth successful year of the New York City Wine & Food Festival. The Festival hosted 150 events over a 4-day period and successfully raised over $1 million for Share Our Strength and Food Bank for New York City, both organizations helping to feed children and adults in need.
To kick off the 3-Day Grand Tasting at Pier 57, Southern Wine & Spirits hosted its annual Trade Day Tasting (presented by Beverage Media Group) which has become a signature event of the Festival. Rosalinda Secondini, director of special events at Southern Wine & Spirits of New York and director of wine & spirits for the Festival said, “In its 5th year, this was by far our most successful Trade Day yet, featuring the finest wines and spirits poured on the Grand Tasting Floor, the return of the Boutique Spirits and Italian Fine Wine Tasting Rooms, and the newly added French Wine Experience, Sopexa Presents ‘France.’ It was the perfect setting for 6,000 customers to taste and experience first hand.”
Secondini continued: “Our gratitude lies solely with our very generous Wine & Spirit Supplier Sponsors and their brands. Without them, there would not be a Festival! The formula for this event’s success is simple: Start with the finest suppliers in our industry who generously support and sponsor this event, add their fine wines and spirits, invite 6,000 customers, benefit 2 wonderful charities, partner with the remarkable Food Network, and last, but not least, add the very best festival team to produce and manage the event, and you have 100% success! We also have Lee Brian Schrager to thank for this; creating the tremendously successful South Beach Wine & Food Festival, now in its 10th year and, of course, introducing it to NYC 5 years ago.”
Among the many other events were perennial favorites like Meatpacking Uncorked (sponsored by Deutsch Family W&S), the Blue Moon Burger Bash, Avión Tequila presents Tacos & Tequila and Godiva Presents SWEET! Sponsored by ZED Moscato (Pernod Ricard USA). Trade highlights included Wine Seminars held at The Standard Hotel and offered attendees unique tasting opportunities. On Saturday, Mark Fine presented Gerard Bertrand Legend Vintages, Six Decades of Sweet Stories, and Janice Mondavi and Marc Mondavi led a tasting of eight vintages of Charles Krug. Sunday featured a Duckhorn Wine Company tasting with Pete Przybylinski, which showcased a retrospective tasting of selected Three Palms Merlot from 2002 to the current vintage.
Next year, the 6th annual New York City Wine & Food Festival will take place the weekend of October 10th – 13th.
