Diageo & Atlantic Wine & Spirits Team Up for Multicultural Blitz
On February 13th and 14th, more than 50 members of the AHEAD community celebrated Black History Month in New York City. The acronym stands for the African Heritage Employees at Diageo, and the mission is to nurture inclusiveness and diversity, to value authenticity and demonstrate respect for all the differences in ethnicity and background.
The two-day BHM celebration kicked off at The Mist Theater in Harlem. Members of the Charmer Division Metro NY Team, led by SVP Joe Lehane, took AHEAD members out on sales calls. Lehane said, “The AHEAD Employee Resource Group made a great contribution to the success of our recent Metro NY blitz. The entire Atlantic Wine & Spirits multicultural team was very impressed with their engagement and passion for our great brands!”
AHEAD members from the Relay Plant got the opportunity to see the impact of the products they bottle. Member Pat Hamlin noted, “It was an eye-opening adventure seeing how the sales team operates and see how important it is for us at Relay to meet our production commitments.”
Complimenting the blitz, the group also participated in community service on the Lower East Side, working with Education Alliance. Participants volunteered with Head Start to teach children about Black History Month through reading stories, singing songs and finger painting together. The activities were fulfilling for children as well as adults, who were glad to take time out of their busy work schedules to give back to the community.
Going forward, AHEAD will continue to celebrate Black History Month and other key celebratory moments for those of African heritage and cultural background. More information can be found at the AHEAD ERG Mosaic Community Site.
