|NEW GLENMORANGIE SCOTCH HAS AMERICAN ACCENT
The name of the latest addition to Glenmorangie’s Private Edition range, Ealanta, is Scots Gaelic for “skilled and ingenious,” but the 1993 single malt has a true American accent: it was matured exclusively in virgin American white oak casks from the Mark Twain National Forest in the Ozark Mountains. Dr. Bill Lumsden, the company’s whisky creation director, says, “It’s no secret in our industry that it’s the ‘wood that makes the whisky.’ Using virgin oak casks that have been heavily toasted adds huge mouthfilling, buttery, creamy, vanilla flavors—somewhat like a crème brulée topped with almond and marzipan.” Limited quantities are available nationally, at 92 proof.

|TUACA BREAKS THE MARKETING MOLD
Tuaca, the all-natural, brandy-based vanilla citrus liqueur, originated during the Italian Renaissance. The brand’s current marketing, though, is thoroughly mod, featuring TV spots as well as a celebration of tattoo and cocktail artistry. Tuaca has partnered with celebrity tattoo artist Corey Miller to host the 2013 Drinks & Ink tour. The ten-city tour, which kicked off in Austin and runs through April 19th, will also include live performances by DJ RAVIDRUMS, Tuaca cocktails, and in each market attendees will have a chance to win a one-of-a-kind tattoo.
|PORTFOLIO GOES THE EXTRA OUNCE
Industry veteran Simon Ford, along with Jason Kosmas and Dushan Zaric of Employees Only and Macao Trading Co. fame, have launched The 86 Co. with a portfolio of four spirits that are versatile, full-bodied and geared for mixing. Cana Brava Rum is a carbonfiltered rum made from wild Panama sugar cane in a 1922 still and aged three years in both un-charred and used whisky barrels (1L, SRP $34.99). Fords Gin is a aromatic, fresh and floral, featuring nine botanicals ($37.99). Tequila Cabeza has an agave-forward style that works well both neat and mixed ($42.99). Hailing from Canada’s Rockies, Aylesbury Duck Vodka is a clean spirit with a spicy and grainy character ($30.99). The bartender-friendly bottles are all 1L in size, with an exact-measure scale in ounces down the side and a ridge in the middle for easy handling. Currently in NY, IL, CA, TX, TN, WA, MA, NV and FL, with more to come.
|OMMEGANG: BEER OF THRONES?
Cooperstown, NY-based Brewery Ommegang and HBO are partnering on a series of beers inspired by the critically acclaimed drama Game of Thrones. Launching in tandem with the season three premiere on March 31st, Iron Throne, a blonde ale, is the first in the series. Unlike “brewed under license” arrangements, this collaboration aims to develop beers that directly tie into themes of the medieval-like fantasy realm of Westeros and the surrounding kingdoms. Iron Throne will be available nationally on draft and in 750ml bottles (SRP $8.50) per bottle, beginning in March.
