Recently, NJRA members traveled to Washington, DC, for the Public Affairs Conference on April 17th-18th. The NJRA delegates met with Congressional representatives from their districts to stress their stance on a variety of issues including minimum wage, healthcare reform, immigration, restaurant depreciation, etc. I welcome your opinions on the issues and invite you to reach out to me if you have any questions on different bills that come up throughout the year. We plan on continued communication and meeting with them in their district offices as well.
If your business was affected by Sandy, please be reassured that the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has released information on funds available. Please check our website for more information if you received physical damage from Superstorm Sandy. Also, visit the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA) website for business grant applications. These grants will be given out on a first-come/first serve basis.
Our Restaurant Operator’s Conference (ROC) held on April 22nd at the Pines Manor in Edison was a huge success. Over 30 vendors exhibited their products and services, and Chefs David Burke, James Laird and Mauro Castano from Cake Boss pleased the crowd with their display of culinary genius. We also held our Mixologist of the Year Competition, sponsored by RumChata. For the second year in a row, Michael Deeg of Salt Creek Grille won with his Jersey Diner martini. Members and nonmembers attended the event, and some sat in on educational sessions from the Department of Labor, Department of Health and ABC.
Important: Many of you are beginning to hire your summer staff and we urge you to take advantage of our FREE ServSafe Classes. As you may know, the new mandate for all Risk 3 establishments takes effect in early 2015 and will require one person per SHIFT to be certified in an accredited program. I can’t encourage you enough to take advantage of this great member benefit we are able to offer you through a grant from the NJ Department of Labor. Please have your FEIN number ready and call Alicia at 800-848-6368 if you are interested in hosting a class or registering your employees. A list of current classes can be found on www.njra.org under Calendar and Seminars.
