IT’S A RAP! ALLURE BUBBLY ALIGNS WITH WARREN G

Allure Moscato has a new face—hip hop legend Warren G. As part of a new promotional campaign, Bronco Wine Company has teamed up with the rapper, whose favorite pink Moscato happens to be Allure. The Allure portfolio offers Moscato, Pink Moscato and Peach Bubbly, and an extensive new marketing campaign will target the urban demographic. Bronco Wine Company’s CEO Fred Franzia said of the partnership, “We’re very pleased to be working with Warren G, who has the bright, lively style of our Allure wines, and the same belief in top quality and value.”

COPPOLA RELEASES A CHARD WITH A DIFFERENCE

The tradition of Sofia wines originated with the sparkling blanc de blancs, which was a gift from Francis Ford Coppola to his daughter Sofia. Over the years the Sofia collection has grown to incorporate Sofia Minis (in stylish pink 187ml cans), Riesling, Rosé and now a Monterey Chardonnay. It’s a beauty, inside and out, balancing pear, green apple, peach and mineral notes. Added roundness comes from 25% Pinot Blanc; and 80% of the wine was vinified in stainless steel to keeps things crisp. SRP: $19.

STEELHEAD PARTNERS WITH JOE MORGAN ON ‘W1NE FOR ONE’

Sonoma-based Steelhead Vineyards and Hall of Fame baseball player Joe Morgan have launched a new single-serve wine called W1NE for One, which is designed for convenient service at sporting and music venues and outdoor occasions in general. The patented (and fully recyclable) 187ml plastic bottle—with detachable plastic flute—grew out of a conversation Morgan had with Steelhead proprietor Dan Leese over a glass of wine. The Sonoma County Merlot and Chardonnay were sold at The Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio, home of the Reds, this season. SRP: $3.99; now available in IL, OH, WI, MD, CA and TX.

WHAT’S IN A NAME? FOR TEJO, A FRESH START

Formerly known as the Ribatejo, central Portugal’s Tejo wine region has reverted to its original name to honor the revered river and its profound influence on the region, considered the agricultural heartland of Portugal thanks to the fertile flood plains along the river’s banks. Tejo growers have seen success with international grapes, but are now re-emphasizing indigenous ones (white Fernão Pires and Arinto; red Trincadeira and Touriga Nacional)—with remarkable results at surprisingly modest prices. This is a Portuguese table wine region to watch.

CUPCAKE CRUISES THE COUNTRY

Who said summer was over? The fun is still rolling for Cupcake Vineyards. The brand has had two tricked-out “Cupcake Trucks” traversing the nation since June, and they’ll be trucking all the way ’til December 6th, offering tastings (where legal), dishing out cupcakes and basically tooting their horn as “America’s #1 Premium Wine.” In all, the trucks will make 200 stops in 25 states. The tour coincides with a “Live Deliciously” sweepstakes and a heavy social media push. A Cupcake rep says the trucks have welcomed 640,000 visitors already, while traveling 16,000+ miles.
