On October 29th, 2012, I took over as President of the New Jersey Restaurant Association just as Superstorm Sandy hit our state. Not only were many of our restaurants and tourism destinations devastated, but the economy was struggling as well. The NJRA had suffered its own setbacks and losses, too.
One year later, much has changed! Our state is rebuilding and the economy is slowly recovering. The NJRA has seen many accomplishments and growth. We focused on bringing real cost saving and industry-specific benefits to our members.
We have built bi-partisan relationships with key legislators in the Assembly and Senate and have a great working relationship with the Governor’s office. Our membership now represents virtually every corner of the state and every kind of food establishment. Our focus is to be inclusive and build partnerships with related organizations and associations so we can better represent your interests. Our mission is simple: Support–Educate–Advocate!
Although we have a terrific board of directors, staff and consultants, we can‘t do it without you, our members. We encourage you to join one of our active committees: Membership, Events, Legislative, Education or Operations & Finance. Your participation is paramount to our future success. Please contact our office for more information on how you can get involved.
I also want you to be aware of all the benefits your membership entitles you to! Please be sure to call Allyson O’Brien for a complete list or check out our new website. As always, please remember that as an NJRA member, you and your staff are eligible to take advantage of our free ServSafe Food and Alcohol classes.
I have enjoyed this past year serving as the President of the NJRA and I look forward to sharing more successes and rep-resenting you and the hospitality industry for many more years.
