Sidney Frank Importing Company recently became the exclusive importer and distributor of Germany’s Black Forest Distillers’ Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin in the U.S. On June 25th, Sidney Frank team members enjoyed a full day of activation to help launch Monkey 47 in New York City with Black Forest Distillers leadership in town.
Several years ago, Alexander Stein, Founder and Managing Partner at Black Forest Distillers, learned of Commander Montgomery Collins, whose exotic and diverse background as the son of a diplomat in East Asia, a military man in Berlin and a quintessential British gentleman formed the inspiration for Monkey 47. Collins, who made a home in Germany’s Black Forest, crafted a gin recipe with 47 natural ingredients, including local lingonberries and Asian botanicals. His original Schwarzwald (Black Forest) Gin recipe included mention of Max, the monkey Collins sponsored as part of helping to rebuild the Berlin Zoo. Stein worked with acclaimed Master Distiller Christoph Keller to fine-tune that recipe and create Monkey 47, first introduced in Germany in 2010.
Stein and Keller were in town for a busy day of trade and consumer events. First, they met and mingled with leading bartenders and mixologists from USBGNY at Monkey Bar. Then, they signed and helped sell bottles of Monkey 47 at Crush Wine & Spirits in Midtown Manhattan. Consumers were also treated to cocktail samples, showcasing Monkey 47’s mixability as part of classic gin drinks. Later that evening, Stein and Keller held a distributor dinner at hotspot Hudson Malone.
Monkey 47 offers dry gin with an authentic story, arresting label and great character with floral, peppery and citrus notes and is rolling out now.
