NJLSA-PAC GOLF OUTING WAS A BIG SUCCESS
The 5th Annual NJLSA-PAC Golf Outing was not only a great time, but also a big success for helping raise much needed financial support for our legislative PAC fund. The weather cooperated and the event was SOLD OUT for the third consecutive year!
The NJLSA Board of Trustees and Directors would like to thank the NJ Wine & Spirit Wholesalers Association for their support as Premier Event Sponsor; Miller Coors as Lunch Sponsor; Heineken USA as Cocktail Reception Sponsor; Opici Wines as Dinner Sponsor; MillerCoors & Shore Point Distributors as the Beverage Cart Sponsor; Brown-Forman & Air Dynamic Systems as Practice Range Sponsors; Beam Suntory, Francis Coppola Winery & Hunterdon Brewing as Putting Green Sponsors; the accounting firm of Withum-Smith&Brown as GPS Cart sponsor; Gallo Wine Sales of NJ, Moët Hennessy USA, Proximo Spirits, Remy-Cointreau and Stoli Group USA for their support as Sampling Sponsors; as well as everyone who stepped up as a T-Sign Sponsor. And finally, we would like to thank all of the golfers who participated in the shot-gun tournament.
I also would like to acknowledge our NJLSA Golf Committee that included Committee Chair Bruce Hamilton, Vice Chair Juan Negrin, along with Mike Maro, Sunny Patel and George Wolfson. We look forward to doing it all over again next year on Monday, June 20th 2016 (the day after Father’s Day).
SUNNY PATEL RECOGNIZED AS THE NJ RETAILER OF THE YEAR
Sunny Patel was just awarded the Brown-Forman Retailer of the Year for the off-premise sector in New Jersey at the Annual Conference of the American Beverage Licenses (ABL) held in Washington, DC in June.
Sunny, who is the owner of Sunny’s Liquors in Passaic, has genuinely dedicated the last two decades of his life to our industry while operating his store and traveling all over the state promoting the NJLSA mission to protect and defend our State’s off-premise licensees. Please join me in congratulating Sunny on his national recognition!
ABL CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTED BY 3-TIER SOLIDARITY
Hundreds of retailers and alcohol industry insiders from across our nation including several from the Garden State participated in the annual American Beverage Licenses (ABL) Conference. The big announcement: ABL, along with Wine & Spirit Wholesalers of America and the President’s Forum, formed an alliance across all three tiers of our industry to create the first bi-partisan “Congressional Hospitality Caucus,” which will provide a forum in which members of Congress can explore issues facing beverage alcohol retailers. The alliance is expected to expand with additional support from industry partners from all three tiers. Clearly, competitive issues ranging from private labels to license limit challenges are taking their toll on all three market tiers, and we have “all” finally found some common ground to share.
There is no doubt in my mind that if there was ever a time for retailers to come together in our industry’s retail sector—that time is now!
