Wines of Germany kicked off their annual “31 Days of German Riesling” on July 1st, a celebration of Germany’s most beloved  grape variety and a summer wine favorite. Over 100 restaurants and wine shops nationwide dedicated the month to all things German Riesling, with participating restaurants offering at least two German Rieslings by-the-glass. Wine shops around the city also offered in-store tastings and discounts on bottles. Participating restaurants in New York included The Russian Tea Room, Terroir on the Porch and The John Dory Oyster Bar. This year’s 31 Days of Riesling marked the continued growth of German Riesling and German wines in general in theU.S.in 2014. German Wines ranked eighth in share of market of imported table wines in the U.S., and 29% of high frequency wine drinkers—those who drink wine several times a week—report purchasing German wines within the last three months.
