NEWGLENMORANGIE
SCOTCH
HAS AMERICAN
ACCENT
The name of the latest addition to
Glenmorangie’s Private Edition range,
Ealanta
, is Scots Gaelic for “skilled
and ingenious,” but the 1993 single
malt has a true American accent: it
was matured exclusively in virgin American white oak casks from
the Mark Twain National Forest in the Ozark Mountains. Dr. Bill
Lumsden, the company’s whisky creation director, says, “It’s no
secret in our industry that it’s the ‘wood that makes the whisky.’
Using virgin oak casks that have been heavily toasted adds
huge mouthfilling, buttery, creamy, vanilla flavors—somewhat
like a crème brulée topped with almond and marzipan.” Limited
quantities are available nationally, at 92 proof and SRP $119.99.
