Recognizing Local Retailer Excellence
New York and New Jersey Merchants Honored with
Brown-Forman Retailer of the Year Awards
D
uring this year’s American
Beverage Licensees Conference in
Washington, DC, ABL President
Chuck Ferrar and Conference
Chairman David Jabour called attention
to 18 outstanding retailers with the Brown-
Forman Retailer of the Year Awards. These
men and women are nominated by local
state affiliate associations. Locally, Newkirk
Station Liquors and Wines and The
Vineyards Wine & Spirits in New York
and Joe Canal’s in southern New Jersey
were among the honorees from around
the country.
Holly Roche
The Vineyards Wine & Spirits,
Middletown, NY
Holly Roche was a choreographer who en-
joyed wine before she switched gears and
opened The Vineyards Wine & Spirits in
April of 2001. She is very active in her com-
munity, hosting wine dinners and other ed-
ucational events and contributing to many
charities. The store is a nice neighborhood
place with a great selection of local Hud-
son Valley wines as well as many affordable
boutique selections.
Marvin Sellers
Joe Canal’s, Belmawr, NJ
Marvin Sellers transitioned into the wine
and spirits retail business from the super-
market world. This location of Joe Canal’s
was built six years ago, and before operat-
ing this store with Zip and Ralph Delano,
Sellers operated VG Liquors with his wife.
He is active in his South Jersey commu-
nity, serving as President of the Board of
the Kellman Brown Academy and very in-
volved with the NJLSA. He is proud that
his store has broad appeal, offering a wide
selection of both wines and spirits. Sellers
would like to thank Paul Santelle for his
hard work and remind fellow retailers of
the importance of being part of an associa-
tion like NJLSA.
Nicholas Correra
Newkirk Station Liquors &
Wines, Brooklyn, NY
Correra, a member of the Metropoli-
tan Package Store Association, has been
in the liquor retail business for over 30
years. His store has been a neighborhood
fixture since 1935 and he took the store’s
ownership over from his brother in the
mid-1970s. He is very active in his commu-
nity, notably serving on the committee to
renovate Newkirk Plaza. Newkirk Station
Liquors & Wines offers a great overall
selection of wine and spirits products for
the community and Correra is proud and
gratified to be honored after so many years
of hard work.
